1. That first step… it’s a big one. Find the courage and conviction to let go and step off.
2. Have faith in your ability and equipment. In BASE-jumping, it’s your physical ability and your wingsuit/parachute. In starting a new company, it’s your way of thinking, your ideas and your beliefs. And the financial means to stay aloft, support your family, and pay the bills.
3. While it might look easy to others, it’s probably one of the hardest things you’ll ever do.
4. The ride. Wow.
5. Figure out where to land. Eventually you need to put both feet on the ground. That’s the way to hitch a ride back up to the top for another jump.
6. It’s a matter of life and death. Or is it “life or death?” You’re probably not going to die by starting your own company. But in order to start something that really matters, your life should depend on it.
7. Playing it safe is playing it safe. You could stay at the bottom of the cliff or safely strapped in the helicopter. That’s absolutely okay. Those BASE-jumpers are daredevils, looking to make their dreams of flight come true. Would you rather watch, or do?
